Senior Citizens - The Yes Group
Welcome to the St. Matthew YES (Young Energetic Seniors) Group. We meet every Thursday in the auditorium immediately following the 9 a.m. Mass. We have a congenial group of about 80 people and our membership continues to grow. This group is for anyone 55 years and older.
We have several weekly activities in which you can participate. These include a group that walks around the beautiful grounds of St. Matthew's Church and also, aerobic exercises and line dancing.
Once a month we enjoy a luncheon either held here, prepared by several of our men or outside in a local restaurant. We only ask a small donation to cover expenses for luncheons prepared here.
There is no obligation to participate in any of these activities. If you prefer, you can just enjoy the company and the coffee. Refreshments are provided at our weekly meetings. The cost of refreshments is included in our annual dues of $20.00 per person. We do ask our members to take a turn helping in the kitchen.
If you have any questions regarding the YES group, just ask Sr. Anthony Thérèse, Pat Benoit, Roberta Fredericks, Joan Rosato, Joan Burke or Joe Corcoran. We will be glad to help you.
Please sign the attendance sheet each week. Also, please give your name, telephone number, address and birthday to Eileen Corcoran so that you can be included in the member roster.

YES- The Young Energetic Seniors meet every Thursday morning, after the 9:00 Mass, in Msgr. Goggin Hall. Why not join us for coffee, cake/bagels ? Bring cards or a board game with you and have some fun.
Check our monthly calendar hanging in the display case as you enter the foyer of the Church.
There is a twofold purpose for this program:
- To have the religious motivation of going to Mass every week in addition to Saturday or Sunday.
- To maintain one's physical health through such programs as line dancing and walking for fitness,
Every meeting begins with a short prayer or meditation conducted by Sr. Anthony Thérèse, OP. We enjoy Diocesan updates regarding our faith. Presently we have a program called START, Scripture, Theology and Religious Tradition Studies. We meet for two hours in both the Spring and Fall for four sessions. Announcements are published in the weekly bulletin as to time and dates. This program is free of charge.
Monthly trips are also part of the agenda. In the past, the group has visited Lancaster, PA-The Millenium Theatre; Essex, CT; and The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park. We have a tentative trip ( depending on weather ) for Harlem.
Guest speakers are invited who address not only spirituality, but basic issues of insurance, wills and health issues.
As indicated, the basic premise is for Seniors to think young, be physically and spiritually fit and be active in the social and spiritual life of the community which will lead to service for the parish of St. Matthew's, Dix Hills. For more information please contact Sr. Anthony Therese or Pat Benoit at 667-7922.
